"I worked for Yanmar for ten years, which is one of the leading diesel engine manufacturers in Japan. I was responsible for the UK and European market for agricultural machinery. I then decided, in 2003, to take time out from work and study a Master’s degree in International Agricultural and Food Marketing in Newcastle University.
Before I came to the UK, I didn’t know that Japan and the North East England have been collaborating in such a many business areas. Furthermore, we realised that the North East has a good infrastructure for the bio-diesel industry and experts in renewable energy.
After contacting the ONE NorthEast Tokyo office, we decided to conduct the research on our Combined Heat and Power (CHP) by using 100% grade bio-diesel fuel in North East England and, in 2007, we started a joint research project with Narec and, this year, Newcastle University.
By using our CHP technology, we would like to study further biomass resources from agriculture, food and wood industries in the North East England.
Finally, the people of the North East are very friendly and very special. I really appreciate everyone’s support in our R&D activities and I understand we cannot reach new heights without their help."
